The Ebonyi state Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Jude Okpor, has clarified that the Vanco Junction flyover project will not be completed within six months, as it is a long-term infrastructure project designed to span at least a year.
Speaking in an interview with journalists in the State, Okpor stressed that Governor Francis Nwifuru’s administration is committed to completing all ongoing projects but noted that some, like the Vanco flyover, require extended construction timelines due to their complexity.
“The governor has made it clear that we are not going to leave any project abandoned under this administration. By the grace of God, he will not hand over any abandoned projects to his successor. However, the Vanco Junction project is one of the legacy projects of this administration, and it is not a short-term project,” he stated.
Okpor explained that while some projects have been earmarked for commissioning in May to mark the administration’s second anniversary, the Vanco flyover is not among them.
“We have mapped out the projects to be commissioned in May, but this particular project is not part of them. It is a one-year-plus project. Our immediate focus is to work on the soil structure to ensure that even during the rainy season, construction will continue unhindered,” he added.
Addressing concerns from Ebonyi residents regarding project timelines, Okpor assured that the state government has put mechanisms in place to monitor and expedite ongoing works.
“We have set up different Executive Council committees to inspect project sites across the state and ensure that contractors are on the ground, working in line with their agreements. We have set targets for projects to be commissioned during the second anniversary, and we are working day and night to make sure they are ready,” he affirmed.
He reiterated that the Vanco Junction flyover is scheduled for commissioning within the third year of Governor Nwifuru’s administration and assured the public of the government’s commitment to delivering quality infrastructure.
