Police Apprehend 51-Year-Old Woman for Allegedly Abducting and Selling Three-Year-Old Girl in Niger

The Niger State Police Command has detained a 51-year-old woman accused of kidnapping a three-year-old girl and attempting to transport her to a buyer who had allegedly paid N530,000 for the child.

According to the police, the suspect took the child from her parents in the Tudun-Natsira area of Minna. Authorities arrested her as she was about to board a bus bound for Nnewi in Anambra State, where the buyer was located.

Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Wasiu, disclosed this information on Friday through a statement, confirming that the girl has been safely reunited with her parents.

The statement reported, “On October 25, 2023, around 7.30pm, one Blessing Jeremiah, 51, of Keteren-Gwari, Minna was seen at a bus park around Maitumbi Bye-pass Minna, in an attempt to board a bus to travel with a three-year-old girl suspected to have been abducted. Police operatives attached to Tudun-Wada Division were immediately drafted to the park and they arrested the suspect with the girl child.”

“During interrogation, she confessed that she took the child from a compound in the Tudun-Natsira area of Minna on the same date at around 6pm. She claimed that she intended to take the child to one Ejima at Nnewi, Anambra State, who contracted her to get a female child for her at the rate of N530,000 while a sum of N230,000 was recovered from the suspect.”

“However, the girl has been reunited with her family, and the case is under investigation at SCID Minna as efforts are ongoing to apprehend the said Ejima.”
