20 Years of Impact: Okutu Bags National Journalism Award

The Ebonyi state Correspondent of Daily Times and Advert Executive of The Guardian Newspapers, Mr. Peter Okutu has bagged the National Excellent Leadership Award in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.

The Award came as a result of his success story and numerous accomplishments in the Media Community, where he has practiced for over 20 years.

Rev. Peter Chukwudi Okutu is a distinguished Journalist, Editor, Publisher, Pastor, and community leader whose leadership journey spans both the Media and Ministry.

He is a practicing journalist with Daily Times Newspapers, Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of PUNCHYNEWSNG.COM, and a former Ebonyi State Correspondent of Vanguard Newspapers, where he served for 15 years.

He has also held leadership positions within the journalism circle, including the Chairman of the National Guide Chapel and Vice Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the NUJ, Ebonyi State.

His leadership journey began in Secondary School and continued at Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, where he became the first Pastor of his Campus Fellowship and the pioneer President of English Language and Literature Students’ Association (ELLSA).

Ordained a Reverend Minister by the Founder of Dominion City Worldwide, Rev. Dr. David Ogbueli in 2016, Rev. Okutu has served in several leadership capacities within Dominion City, including the Resident Pastor at Dominion City Amikeaba for over 10 years, Co-Resident Pastor at the Dominion City Headquarters, Abakaliki, and currently, the Resident Pastor of Dominion City Oroke-Onoha II, in Ebonyi Local Government Area of Ebonyi state.

Through his Ministry, he has championed community outreaches, humanitarian support, and youth development, including the establishment of Oroke-Onoha Youth Fellowship to train and empower young people for impactful leadership.

Rev. Peter Chukwudi Okutu is therefore celebrated for his commitment in journalism practice, spiritual leadership, youth development, community service, and positive societal transformation.

In an opening remarks, the Director General, DG, Professional Public Speaking and Leadership Academy Abuja, Dr. Lotanna Okoye who welcomed the Awardees and guests to the event stressed the need for leadership development for the purposes of building future leaders in the Country.

“The Award is meant to reward hardwork, diligence and commitment to service. We need leaders who will transform the society and make it a better place for us to live in. Unknowingly to us, we are by our lifestyles and conduct raising leaders in our various localities and families.”

He announced the commencement of a new program by the group, which will help to build teenagers in the country and beyond.

He said the program is christened Metamorphosis, a free leadership and value based program for teens adding that another program will also be initiated to award parents who distinguish themselves in the area of parenting and children upbringing.

In a chat with newsmen after receiving his Award, the Ebonyi state Advert Executive of The Guardian Newspapers and Chief Executive Officer, CEO of PUNCHYNEWS.COM, expressed joy that the efforts he has put into the Media sector has given him a national recognition and commendation.

According to him, the Award will spur me to continue to give my best to the media community,, Ebonyi state and the country at large.

“Today is indeed one of the best days of my life. I feel elated and proud to be a distinguished Journalist that knows his onions.

“I have received this Award today and I believe that more Awards will come in the days ahead. I want to encourage my colleagues in the media to live up to the expectations of their chosen career. Let’s not give up because I know that the sky will certainly be our starting point.

“I am overjoyed today. I am excited. I am short of words and I give God all the glory as I dedicate this award to Him and Him alone for giving me the grace and skill to write and be able to record so much success in this profession. May His name be praised forever and ever in Jesus Mighty Name Amen.”
