The build-up to the 2027 general elections gathered momentum on Saturday as Ebonyi State stakeholders resident in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) unanimously endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru for a second term in office, citing their administrations’ reforms, development initiatives and leadership performance.
The endorsement was announced at a well-attended gathering in Abuja, where members of the Ebonyi community, political leaders, youth groups and cultural organisations declared their support for the continued leadership of both men, insisting that continuity would accelerate ongoing development at the national and state levels.
The event, organised by the Abuja chapter of the FON Youth Movement in collaboration with the Ebonyi State Community in the FCT, drew prominent political figures from Ebonyi State, including the state’s three senators and members of the House of Representatives.
Addressing the gathering, stakeholders said their endorsement was based on what they described as the visible impact of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Governor Nwifuru’s People’s Charter of Needs, which they said had produced significant gains in governance, infrastructure, healthcare and economic empowerment.
The formal motion endorsing the two leaders was moved by the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate and Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, and seconded by the member representing Ezza South/Ikwo Federal Constituency, Hon. Chinedu Ogah. The motion was unanimously adopted by participants.
Speakers at the event urged Nigerians to assess the Tinubu administration within the context of its ongoing economic reforms, arguing that major policy decisions introduced since 2023 were laying the foundation for long-term economic stability and sustainable growth.
They pointed to the removal of fuel subsidy, foreign exchange market reforms and tax restructuring initiatives as bold but necessary measures aimed at repositioning Nigeria’s economy despite their initial challenges.
The stakeholders also commended Governor Nwifuru’s administration for implementing projects and programmes they said had improved the quality of life in Ebonyi State.
According to them, investments in healthcare—including the rehabilitation of general hospitals, provision of modern medical equipment, deployment of ambulances and improved welfare packages for health workers—have strengthened healthcare delivery across the state.
They further praised the administration’s youth and women empowerment programmes, skills acquisition schemes, business grants and employment initiatives, noting that the interventions had expanded economic opportunities for thousands of residents.
The gathering also acknowledged the governor’s efforts in promoting peace and security, settling outstanding gratuities and advancing industrialisation as part of broader plans to stimulate economic growth in the state.
Chairman of the organising committee and Federal Commissioner representing Ebonyi State at the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Dr. Henry Awuruegu, described the meeting as a defining moment for Ebonyi indigenes in the FCT.
“What happened in Abuja was more than a political event. It was a collective affirmation of leadership, progress and the aspirations of Ebonyi people,” he said.
Also speaking, the President-General of the Ebonyi Community in the FCT, Chief Idenyi Chinedu, said the endorsement demonstrated the confidence Ebonyi indigenes had in the leadership of President Tinubu and Governor Nwifuru, expressing optimism that the continuation of their administrations beyond 2027 would sustain ongoing development and deliver greater dividends of governance.
