930 students benefit as Nwebonyi disburses over ₦100m scholarship

 

The Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Barrister Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi has disbursed over one hundred million naira to 930 indigent students selected from various disciplines across the four Local Government Areas of Ebonyi North zone.

 

The Disbursement took place at Remeritona Hotel in Abakaliki, the state capital where the students gathered in their numbers with jubilation.

 

Speaking at the event, Senator Nwebonyi said he started the scholarship programmes when he wasn’t in politics because of the passion he has for education as a Lawyer.

 

The lawmaker said that he is making the history in Education and other sectors because he wants to set extra ordinary standard in the zone with which others should follow in future.

 

He said “history is not all that happened but the extra ordinary thing that happened in a generation”.

 

He called on the Students to take their studies very seriously as he would be there to give the necessary supports.

 

He also called on the students to vote for Nigeria’s President, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru and himself for Senate come 2027 general elections.

 

According to him”In the history of Ebonyi North Senatorial Zone, Ebonyi State at large, no Senator has been able to give the number of scholarship I have given, no senator has been able to put down the number of roads I have constructed and the number of Public schools I have built.

 

“I am doing all these because of what my constituents have passed through before now. I want everyone to feel the presence of good democracy dividends in the zone, I want Ebonyi people to enjoy the good administrative legacies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu”. He said.

 

However, the Senator urged youths to shun Castigating their leaders on the social media for the progress and prosperity of Ebonyi State and Nigeria at large.

 

The Principal Secretary to the Governor, Chief Mathias Adum who was also the Chairman of the Disbursement Ceremony, said in his opening speech that Senator Nwebonyi has represented Ebonyi State very well in the Nigerian Senate and as such deserves second term.

 

He warned the beneficiaries of the Scholarship to do away with tarnishing the image of any leader in the social media or any other ways.

 

The Chief of Staff to Governor, Professor Emmanuel Echiegu said the young senator has performed exceedingly well and as such, he deserves to be motivated to do more in his second term.

 

The Chairman of Abakaliki Local Government Area, Ebere Nwogba urged the students to be a model in their various disciplines so that they could make the senator and the society proud.

 

Also, the Chairman of Ohaukwu Local Government Area, Ikechukwu Odonor noted that the senator has also done much both in Education and infrastructural development in the zone.

 

Odonor urged the students to avoid all form of social vices to enable them graduate on time and with good grade too.

 

The Chairman Coordinators Forum, Chidi Ogbonna and also the Coordinator Ebyia Development Center, Steven Iboko said Senator Nwebonyi has delivered on the mandate given to him by the people of the Zone.

 

Earlier the Chief of Staff to Deputy Chief Whip, Barrister Nnaemeka Nwambam said the beneficiaries were carefully selected from different disciplines.

 

The Member representing Izzi West State constituency, Abiri Godwin Abiri said the 830 students benefiting today’s scholarship is to boost the standard of education in the state.

 

The Zonal Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) Ebonyi North Senatorial Zone, Chief John Nwankata charged the beneficiaries of the Scholarship to make judicious use of the opportunity and study very hard to make the society better.

 

Special Assistant to Governor on Student Mobilisation, Comrade Angel Odono appreciated the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate for remembering the indigent students in that large manner.

 

Some of the beneficiaries including Nwangbo Alexander and Chioma Nwibo assured to be more dedicated to their studies to make the Senator proud while praying God to replenish him in million fold.

 

It would be recalled that Senator Nwebonyi has earlier awarded scholarship to some law and medical Indigent Students of which some are from western and Northern Nigeria.
