Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has raised concerns over the handling of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s nomination forms, questioning the role of third parties in the process.
Sowore’s reaction follows the signing of the President’s nomination forms—reportedly valued at one hundred million naira—by the Minister of Works and former Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Francis Nwaze, Umahi described the endorsement as a demonstration of commitment to continuity and consolidation of the administration’s achievements.
He characterized the nomination process as a defining moment in Nigeria’s development trajectory, emphasizing that it reflects a collective resolve to sustain stability and build on gains recorded under the current administration.
The minister further highlighted ongoing infrastructure reforms, particularly in road construction and rehabilitation, which he said are central to economic growth and national development. He added that the President is well positioned to complete ongoing initiatives and deepen progress across key sectors, while calling for sustained public support.
However, reacting in a post on his verified X platform, Sowore questioned why individuals other than the President were involved in obtaining and completing the nomination forms.
He also raised concerns over whether such an arrangement could allow the President to distance himself from details contained in the documents, particularly regarding his qualifications.
The development has sparked fresh debate around transparency and procedure in the lead-up to the next electoral cycle, as political activities begin to gather momentum.
