Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards on Saturday night showcased their grand style and celebration at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos, as Africa’s finest actors, filmmakers and digital content creators gathered to celebrate excellence in film, television and storytelling across the continent.
The glamorous ceremony brought together leading figures in the entertainment industry, showcasing the growing influence of African cinema and the continent’s expanding creative economy. The event, covered live across television and digital platforms, featured emotional moments, cultural displays and recognition for outstanding productions released within the year.
One of the biggest winners of the night was My Father’s Shadow, which clinched the coveted Best Movie award and also secured wins in Best Score/Music, Best Writing and Best Sound Design categories.
In the acting categories, Uzor Arukwe emerged Best Lead Actor for his performance in Colours of Fire, while Linda Ejiofor won Best Lead Actress for her role in The Serpent’s Gift.
The historical epic Lisabi also recorded a major victory after winning Best Indigenous Language Film (West Africa).
Other notable winners included Bucci Franklin, who won Best Supporting Actor for To Kill a Monkey, while Linda Ejiofor secured another award in the Best Supporting Actress category for The Herd.
Technical categories were dominated by Colours of Fire and To Kill a Monkey, with awards for costume design, cinematography, editing and art direction.
In the digital and television categories, Nigerian Idol won Best Unscripted M-Net Original, while MTV Shuga Mashariki claimed the award for Best Writing in a TV Series.
