In Abuja on Wednesday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) complied with the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory’s order regarding the case of former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.
Emefiele, who had been in the custody of Federal Government security agencies for more than 150 days, was brought to court in accordance with Justice Olukayode Adeniyi’s order. The former CBN Governor, clad in a yellow Babariga with a matching Hausa cap, arrived at the courtroom at around 12:30, accompanied by a group of EFCC operatives providing security. His friends and relatives had gathered at the court premises, awaiting the Judge’s arrival for a hearing on his fundamental human rights case.
On Monday, Justice Adeniyi reaffirmed his order that the detained former CBN governor should be brought to court on November 8 for the purpose of considering his bail application. In the alternative, he directed the anti-graft agency to either grant bail to Emefiele on its own or allow the court to do so, in accordance with the provisions of the law regarding fundamental human rights.
