The Federal Government is set to commence the trial of the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, on charges related to economic sabotage. The trial, initially scheduled about 24 hours ago, was postponed and is now slated to take place at a High Court in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
According to a notice for the trial, Justice Hamza Muazu will preside over the case, and Emefiele will face charges alongside one Ramalan Yaro. A registrar from the court, preferring to remain anonymous, has verified that Emefiele will appear before the court to enter his plea of guilty or not guilty.
Maxwell Opara, a member of Emefiele’s defense team, confirmed the receipt of the arraignment notice, indicating that the former CBN Governor has been served and is expected to appear in court.
Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Matthew Burkaa, who previously signed an undertaking for Emefiele’s bail before Justice Olukayode Adegbola Adeniyi of the FCT High Court, will present the former CBN governor in court for the trial.
