Former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele Remanded in Kuje Prison by Court Order

Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja has directed that Godwin Emefiele, the ex-Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), be held in Kuje prison until November 22, pending a decision on his bail application.

The ruling on Emefiele’s bail request will be delivered on November 22, as per the court’s decision. During the proceedings, his lead counsel, Mathew Burkaa SAN, presented the bail application, which was strongly opposed by Rotimi Oyedepo on behalf of the Federal Government.

After hearing arguments from both sides, Justice Muazu explained that a bench ruling could not be given due to the numerous legal authorities cited by the parties. The judge expressed the need for some time to examine these authorities and review the exhibits submitted by Emefiele in support of his bail plea.

As of the latest update, officials from the Kuje prison have been contacted to arrange transportation for Emefiele to the prison facility. Further details will be provided later.
