The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council for Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike (AE-FUNAI), Ebonyi State, Dr. Anthony C. Nebo has come under fire by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU and other Unions for attempting to cause crisis within the Institution of learning.
Engr. Nebo, who was alleged to have collected more than $500,000 from an illegal source, is desperately planning to install a new Vice Chancellor that he himself has chosen, having allegedly performed a kangaroo screening, which led to the disqualification of many contestants for the position of the VC, even Professors that were qualified, especially those of Ebonyi extraction and other selected States.
The current VC of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike (AE-FUNAI), Professor Sunday Elom, was inaugurated in 2020 for a 5-year single tenure; therefore, his term in office is projected to expire in February 2026
By the behaviour of Engr. Nebo, it is has been confirmed from undisclosed sources that he has a hidden agenda, that if not checked may cause crisis in the entire State, especially in Ikwo LGA of the State.
The Governor and other stakeholders in the State, including Security agencies are put on alert to watch him closely, because if any crisis erupts following his clandestine adminstrative activities, there’s a tendency that he will runaway to his State to seek refuge.
ASUU is now calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minister of Education among other Stakeholders that love Ebonyi State to intervene and help avert the brewing crisis, so that he (Engr . Nebo) will not satisfy his egocentric plot against the University norms and standards of doing things.
He was alleged of boasting to bribe some particular and selected Senate members of the University. He is also said to have planned to charter flights for members who he invited, although it was gathered that some of them told him that they were not interested.
However, some concerned members who he was planning to bribe are advised in their own interest to stay clear, as many eyes are now on them.
The only thing ASUU said is that Engr. Nebo should allow the principle of due process to prevail in the selection and appointment of a new VC and do things the right way.
