The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State has intensified efforts to reconcile aggrieved party members and strengthen internal unity ahead of the forthcoming elections, with less than 100 days to the polls.
The state APC Chairman, Hon. Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, disclosed this during a crucial meeting involving the State Working Committee (SWC), National Assembly candidates, House of Assembly candidates and the 13 local government chairmen of the party.
Emegha said the meeting was convened to bring party stakeholders together, address internal disagreements and identify areas requiring urgent intervention as the party prepares for the elections.
He acknowledged that some members were dissatisfied with the outcome of the party’s ticket distribution, stressing that the APC leadership was committed to reconciling aggrieved members and resolving outstanding issues.
According to him, the party would engage members who felt aggrieved, identify the causes of their grievances and work towards resolving them before the elections.
Adding “There are some people that are angry because they couldn’t pick the ticket. This other person picked the ticket. It’s still also in the mood of reconciling them, knowing that it is a general thing. The ticket is not only their ticket. It is the ticket of the party. I am also involved.
“The governor is involved. Everybody is involved. All the stakeholders are involved. And there is no any other body that can be bringing them together other than the party. So that was just the essence of the meeting.”
Emegha maintained that the party remained the appropriate platform for bringing its members together, resolving disputes and building consensus ahead of the polls.
On the ongoing distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), the APC chairman urged eligible voters across Ebonyi State, irrespective of political affiliation, to collect their cards and participate in the electoral process.
He said the number of registered voters in the state was a collective asset that could strengthen Ebonyi’s voice in national affairs, stressing that political participation should not be limited to members of any particular party.
According to him, the PVC remains a vital instrument through which citizens can exercise their constitutional right to vote and contribute to determining the state’s political future.
Emegha called on every eligible voter to collect their PVC and ensure they turn out on election day, urging stakeholders to encourage participation and address any challenges that could discourage voters from exercising their franchise.
