The Ebonyi South Youths Assembly has taken note of the recent public remarks credited to the former Secretary to the Ebonyi State Government, Professor Ifeanyi Bernard Odoh, concerning his aspiration to represent Ebonyi Central Senatorial District in the Senate under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
As a socio-political youth organization committed to democratic ideals, good governance, and issue-based political engagement, we respect the constitutional right of every qualified Nigerian to seek elective office. However, we firmly believe that the people of Ebonyi Central Senatorial District deserve an objective and balanced assessment of all aspirants based on verifiable records of performance, proven competence, integrity, and measurable contributions to public service.
The Assembly notes that the serving Senator representing Ebonyi Central Senatorial District, Senator Ken Eze, has established a record in office that is already subject to public scrutiny. Reports of employment opportunities facilitated for constituents, constituency development projects, youth empowerment initiatives, and legislative interventions undertaken within the first three years of his tenure are matters that can be independently verified and objectively assessed by the electorate.
In the same vein, we respectfully urge Professor Odoh, having publicly projected himself as the most suitable candidate for the office, to equally present to the people a comprehensive account of his own achievements and antecedents. As a former university lecturer and former Secretary to the Ebonyi State Government, the public deserves to know the measurable impact he made in those positions, the policies and initiatives he championed, his contributions to the development of Ebonyi State, and the personal credentials that distinguish him as the preferred choice of the electorate.
Furthermore Odoh should tell us the issues surrounding his professorship which cost him the Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe Federal University Awka.
Furthermore, as a prominent supporter of the presidential ambition of the Nigeria Democratic Congress and its presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, Professor Odoh owes the electorate a clear explanation of the political, developmental, and legislative agenda he intends to pursue, including how his candidacy would complement and strengthen the party’s national vision. Such transparency will enable voters to make informed decisions not only on his senatorial aspiration but also on his capacity to mobilize support for his party and its presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections.
We believe that democratic contests are won not by lofty declarations or political rhetoric but by demonstrable records of service, competence, credibility, and the ability to inspire public confidence. The electorate deserves facts rather than assumptions, evidence rather than slogans, and performance rather than promises.
The Ebonyi South Youths Assembly therefore calls on all political actors, political parties, and their supporters to conduct their campaigns peacefully, responsibly, and in strict adherence to democratic principles. We encourage healthy, issue-based debates that will enable citizens to evaluate candidates based on facts, documented achievements, policy alternatives, and their respective visions for the future of Ebonyi Central Senatorial District.
The Assembly further urges all stakeholders to refrain from statements or actions capable of inflaming political tensions, creating unnecessary divisions, or undermining the prevailing peace and stability that Ebonyi State has continued to enjoy.
We remain unwavering in our commitment to promoting responsible leadership, transparency, accountability, and constructive democratic engagement in the overall interest of Ebonyi State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
