Osborn Umahi Steps into Ohaozara Politics, Set for LG Chairmanship

The competencies of the man, Osborn Nweze Umahi is not in doubt, following his numerous trainings, educational qualifications, experiences, exposure and the parameters within the tutelage he received, consequent upon his Christian background and parentage.

He is set to make history in the political arena of the State as he emerges as the next Chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area against all odds and ends.

Osborn Nweze Umahi, who is the first son of the former Governor of Ebonyi State and current Minister of Works, David Umahi, has continued to remain an enigma to the Nigerian public.

At the young age of 26, he has been in the saddle of Brass Oil and Construction Limited for more than four years as the Managing Director.

He was barely over 21 when he took over the company founded by his father, who had to relinquish the management of the day-to-day operations to him, so he could focus on his duties and responsibilities as the Governor of Ebonyi State.

As the first child, Osborn Nweze Umahi was born on March 14, 1998, and had his primary and secondary school education in Nigeria before moving to London at the age of 15 to pursue further studies.

He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Surrey, England, at the age of 21, and returned home to Nigeria as a qualified Civil Engineer. He cut his teeth as an Engineer and a Businessperson working under the tutelage of his father.

He returned briefly to the United Kingdom to earn a Master’s in Finance and Investment Management at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. The qualifications further lend credibility to his expertise as an investment expert, in addition to his working as Director of finance at Forte GCC Innovative Solutions.

He proved his clout as an Entrepreneur when he embarked on setting up the Osborn La-Palm Resort, which has grown into a hotel chain with branches in Abakiliki, Port Harcourt, and Abuja.

He also owned the Osborn Foundation, which made news in 2023 when he donated books and other writing materials to schools in Kano, in addition to enrolling 50 indigent students in secondary school in Ebonyi State.

This emerging politician bigwig with a difference, has exemplified the need for youths to venture into entrepreneurship and politics under proper guidance, so that they can have the chance to deliver democracy dividends to their people without any form of reservation.

His emergence has given hope to the youths of Ebonyi State, attesting to the fact that, their interest is of immense importance to the stakeholders of Ebonyi State.

Osbourne Umahi, son of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, last Friday begun his political journey by picking the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship nomination and expression of interest form for Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

Osbourne, the first son of the Minister, was escorted to the Party’s State Secretariat in Abakaliki by a crowd of supporters.

At the Secretariat, he was received by members of the Party’s State Executive Council led by the Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha.

Okoro-Emegha hailed Umahi, describing him as an intelligent and capable young politician and businessman with the capacity to take the local government area to greater heights.

Speaking to reporters, Osbourne Umahi thanked the people of Ohaozara for nominating him to contest for the position and promised not to disappoint the confidence they have reposed in him.

On what to expect from his administration if elected, Umahi said his main focus would be youth empowerment, noting that young people remain the backbone of development.

He also pledged to sustain the legacy of his father in the area of infrastructure development across the Local Government Area of the State.

The Party’s Local Government primaries is scheduled to come up on January 25 and if the young Umahi wins, he will be stand for the Local Government election against other parties’ candidates in August this year.

The fact still remains that a Lion cannot give birth to a snake and therefore, if the current Minister of Works was able to messerize his opponents with enormous capital projects and human capital developments scattered across the length and breadth of the State, during his stay as Governor, the good people of Ohaozara LGA should get ready for similar developmental strides, laced with the vibrancy of a youthful energy.
