The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN, Abakaliki and District Society has stated that it is prepared to partner Ebonyi State Government and all the tiers of Government for mutually beneficial programmes and initiatives geared towards the development of the State.
The new Chairman of ICAN Abakaliki and District Society, Mr. Nwanoke Uchenna Larry stated this during his Investiture Ceremony as the 12th Chairman of ICAN Abakaliki and District Society and Inauguration of the 2026/2027 District Executive Committee by the 62nd President of ICAN, Queensley Sofuratu Seghosime at Osborn La-Palm Royal Resort road, Mile 50, Abakaliki.
He added that the Institute is committed to actively supporting the economic development of the State, in the areas of revenue management, professionalism, taxation, and fiscal policy.
According to him, our society is home to experienced and formidable professionals, and we shall deploy their expertise in the service of the State.
He further added that the Institute will deepen collaboration with key public and private institutions to strengthen the visibility and relevance of ICAN in the area of policy, governance, and financial accountability.
He said: “We will strengthen digital engagement within the District by promoting technology-driven learning, enabling virtual participation in our programmes, and improving our communication system to enhance efficiency and accessibility to all members.
“We will build stronger bridge between seasoned professionals and the next generation of Accountants – including students and newly qualified members – through structured mentorship programmes and targeted career development support.
“In line with the Institute’s Catch-them-young initiative, our dedicated Committee will intensify outreach efforts across tertiary institutions within Abakaliki and its environ, beginning with AE-FUNAI, EBSU and Evangel University, as well as selected Secondary schools. We are committed to inspiring the leaders of tomorrow.” He added
In her remarks, the President of ICAN, Hajiya Queensley Sofuratu represented by the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Prof. Leonard Uguru, encouraged the newly inaugurated Chairman of ICAN Abakaliki and District Society to prioritise the interest of the profession and the Institute in his agenda as he pilots the affairs of ICAN in Ebonyi State.
She also encouraged the younger ones to join ICAN and maintain the integrity of the Institute in all their dealings and activities.
Earlier, the Chairman, Investiture Planning Committee on the Investiture Ceremony of the 12th Chairman of ICAN Abakaliki and District Society and Inauguration of the 2026/2027 Executive Committee of the District, Nze Dr. Kingsley Oyekezie, who welcomed members of ICAN and guests to the auspicious occasion, said the Investiture is a testimony that the District has come of age by executing a seamless e-electoral process and transiting with ease.
He enjoined members to maximally coperate and contribute their quota towards the success of the newly inaugurated Executive Committee of the District.
In an interview, the mother of the newly inaugurated Chairman of Abakaliki and District Society, Hon. Mrs. Chinyere Nwanoke thanked God for helping his son to attain such height in ICAN.
“I am extremely happy that my second son has remained calm and collected and due to his hardworking nature, God has brought him this far. This is what every parent will wish and I know that God will take him higher in all his endeavour.”
“My advice to parents is for them to give their children a pathway, advice and leave them and don’t insist on your own desire for any child.”
The event was well attended by members, guests and family members of the newly inaugurated executive Committee of the Institute.
