In the early hours of Thursday, Usman Sahabi, who serves as the Chief of Staff at the Adamawa State House of Assembly, was kidnapped. Sahabi, a long-time reporter for the Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), was forcibly taken from his home in Wuro-Chekke, Yola South Local Government Area, around 1 am.
The yet-to-be-identified gunmen who stormed his residence have demanded a ransom of N20 million. A family source confirmed that five gunmen broke into his room, taking him at gunpoint.
The Adamawa State Police Command has reacted to the situation, pledging to rescue the journalist. The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sulaiman Nguroje, assured that they have deployed all available resources to ensure Usman Sahabi’s safe return.
“We have not rested since we learned about the incident, and we are actively pursuing the criminals to rescue the journalist and bring the culprits to justice,” Nguroje affirmed.
He further assured, “The Deputy Commissioner of Operations has coordinated rescue efforts and we are determined to ensure his safe return to his family.”
