Tragedy Strikes: Two Killed and Ten Injured in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Crash

In a tragic incident on Friday, a Mazda bus collided with a Howo Sino truck at the Kara area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, resulting in the death of two individuals and injuring 10 others. The Federal Road Safety Corps’ spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command, Florence Okpe, conveyed this information in a statement to the press.

Okpe attributed the suspected cause of the accident to “route violation and dangerous driving.” The official statement reported, “A fatal crash occurred today, Friday, 10 November 2023, at about 0832hrs, at the Kara Turning of the inward section of the Lagos – Ibadan expressway. A total of 14 people were involved in which 2 died instantly, leaving 10 people injured and 2 people unhurt.”

The vehicles involved in the crash were identified as a white Mazda Bus with registration number XV945EPE and an unregistered white and blue Howo Sino Truck. The injured victims were promptly transported to Famobis Hospital, while the deceased were taken to Idera mortuary.

The statement emphasized the suspected causes of the crash, citing “route violation and dangerous driving” as contributing factors. Ogun State Sector Commander of FRSC, Anthony Uga, cautioned drivers against violating traffic rules, particularly driving against traffic (one way), and urged them to exercise caution to prevent jeopardizing their lives and those of other road users.

Uga reiterated FRSC’s commitment to fostering a safer motoring environment and enhancing service delivery. He called for the cooperation of all individuals to collectively work towards reducing road crashes.
