In a ruling on Wednesday, the Appeal Court in Lagos upheld the tribunal’s judgment confirming the election of Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the Governor and Obafemi Hamzat as the Deputy Governor of Lagos State.
The court dismissed the suit brought by Olajide Adediran, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), challenging Sanwo-Olu’s election.
A three-member panel, led by Yargata Nimpa, delivered a unanimous decision, rejecting the grounds of appeal raised by Adediran, also known as Jandor. The judgment was rendered by Justice Yargata Nimpa, Justice Samuel Bola, and Justice Paul Bassey.
Recalling that the tribunal had previously affirmed Sanwo-Olu’s victory in the March 11 election, the justices stated, “Even though they were all pre-election matters, the appellants (PDP and Adeniran) still failed to prove them. The appellants came empty-handed and left empty-handed. They merely enjoyed their day in court. Their petition is dismissed.”
