The Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts recently visited the Ministries of Finance and Health to examine how the 2024 budgets are being assessed.
The committee, led by Chairman Hon. Chief Abiri Godwin Abiri, stated that the visits are part of their duty to monitor government spending and ensure compliance with budgetary provisions.
Hon. Abiri emphasized that these visits are crucial for improving productivity and performance in government agencies.
He directed the Finance Commissioner to provide detailed reports on income, expenditure, and budget assessments for 2024.
During the visit, committee member Hon. Stephen Orji Igwe reminded the ministries to properly remit all collected taxes, while Hon. Friday Ogbuewu urged them to adhere to the budget provisions.
In response, Finance Commissioner Dr. Leonard Uguru highlighted efforts to boost internally generated revenue and ensure spending aligns with the budget.
At the Ministry of Health, Commissioner Dr. Moses Ekuma reported progress in assessing the 2024 budget.
He outlined achievements such as new health center construction, upgrading Nwofe Health Center to a General Hospital, and providing SUVs and ambulances to all General Hospitals in the state.
