NILWC to Host 17th National Conference in Abuja

The Nigerian Institute of Landscape Water Culturists (NILWC) is set to hold its 17th National Conference and Annual General Meeting, bringing together environmental professionals, scholars, and enthusiasts from across Nigeria. The event, themed “Unveiling the Potentials of Landscape Horticulture for Environmental Protection and Sustainability,” is scheduled for November 25–29, 2024, at the University of Abuja’s Faculty of Agriculture Auditorium.

This year’s conference will address pressing environmental and urbanization challenges facing Nigeria. Topics will include “Environmental Landscape and Beautification for Urban Cities, Renewal and Healthy Living,” “Landscape Management Approaches and Technologies,” and “Ornamental Plant Production as a Viable Livelihood.” Key themes also cover “Hardscape Installation and Durability” and “Edible Softscape Components and Food Security.”

Dr. Emmanuel Abimbola Bankole, NILWC’s National President, will be the chief host, while Honourable Minister for the FCT, Barr. Nyson Wike, has endorsed the event. Professor Aishat Maikudi, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, will welcome attendees, showing academia’s role in sustainable development. Former Minister of State for Environment Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako will deliver the keynote address, sharing insights on Nigeria’s environmental sustainability efforts.

The conference will honor influential figures like Senator Olamilekan Solomon Adeola (Yayi) and Prince Adewole Adebayo with fellowship awards, recognizing their contributions to landscape development. Leading the first paper presentation will be Dr. Abdullai Ndarubu of Harvest Field Industries Nigeria Ltd., joined by Dr. John O. Alabi, whose research is set to inspire discussions on sustainable landscape solutions in Nigeria.
