The Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Enyim Agalegu, Ikwo Local Government Area, has secured justice in its petition against First Patriot Limited, formerly known as Royal Salt. The Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Public Petition, Justice, and Judiciary has directed the company to immediately commence rebuilding the church auditorium, which was damaged by blasts from its operations in 2022.

The committee, chaired by Hon. Barr. Innocent Chikaodili Nome, also recommended that the company conduct regular environmental impact assessments to mitigate the effects of its mining activities on the local community.

Following a detailed investigation into the church’s petition, Hon. Nome explained that the committee’s approach aimed to encourage peace and uncover the truth behind the claims.

The Assembly has given First Patriot Limited a three-month deadline to complete the reconstruction of the church and hand it over to the parish.

Speaking during the session, the Director of First Patriot Limited, Mr. Obio Alio, expressed gratitude to the committee for handling the matter without conflict or disruption. He assured that the company would fully comply with the committee’s resolutions.

This resolution is a significant win for the parishioners of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and a step towards ensuring responsible corporate practices in the region.
