AGN Suspends Actress Shirley Igwe Over Alleged Assault on Crew Member

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has announced the indefinite suspension of Nollywood actress Shirley Igwe following allegations that she physically assaulted a crew member during a film shoot.

According to multiple reports, the incident occurred during a recent production where Igwe allegedly slapped a member of the Creative Designers Guild of Nigeria (CDGN). The altercation reportedly disrupted the set and drew widespread condemnation from industry insiders.

In a statement released by the AGN, the guild described the actress’s action as “violence and indiscipline” capable of bringing the acting profession into disrepute. The statement, which was directed to all state chapter chairmen and the national chairman, emphasized the guild’s zero tolerance for misconduct among its members.

“The national body of the Actors Guild of Nigeria has placed Shirley Igwe on indefinite suspension, pending further investigation into the matter,” the statement read. “Members are hereby directed to refrain from participating in any film production involving her.”

The disciplinary measure underscores the AGN’s commitment to maintaining professionalism and discipline within the Nigerian film industry. The Guild also reaffirmed its stance on protecting the rights and dignity of all practitioners in the entertainment ecosystem, including crew members often working behind the scenes.

As of the time of this report, Shirley Igwe has not issued a public response to the suspension or the allegations leveled against her.
