The Ebonyi State Government has taken a decisive step to strengthen market operations and improve the business environment, as the Commissioner for Market Development and Parks, Nwogo Ajuka Obasi, today led the ministry’s management team, alongside the Chairman of the Ebonyi State Market Development Board, in a strategic meeting with traders from all 13 local government areas of the state.

The meeting, held in Abakaliki aimed to assess activities across markets and motor parks, review the role of government, and gather feedback from traders on how to further enhance ease of doing business. Traders, secretaries, and market chairmen attended in large numbers, interacting actively with government officials and submitting detailed reports of their market activities.

Prof. Obasi said the traders expressed overwhelming happiness with the engagement and repeatedly thanked Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for creating an enabling environment that has improved business operations across the state. “Out of excitement after the deliberation, the traders unanimously informed us that they have a package for the governor. They are working towards it, and when it is ready, they will present it,” he revealed.

He added that the government has achieved its aim by documenting all activities, noting areas of concern, and hearing firsthand the traders’ appreciation for numerous government initiatives. “We have carefully noted the areas of concern, and as a government, we will address the issues presented in a timely manner,” Prof. Obasi assured.

During deliberations, participants highlighted operational challenges and suggested solutions to improve infrastructure, efficiency, and regulatory support within markets and parks. They also commended the governor for his people-oriented leadership and policies under the “People’s Charter of Needs” agenda, which they say has significantly enhanced ease of doing business.

The meeting concluded with the adoption of resolutions reached during deliberations. A motion for adoption was moved by Hon. Nwode and seconded by Hon. Linus Obaji, Chairman of the Abakaliki Rice Mill, signaling a unified commitment to advancing market and park development across Ebonyi State.

The engagement marks a significant step toward participatory governance, fostering stronger government-business relations, and boosting confidence among traders in Ebonyi State.
