Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has issued a stern warning to residents against aiding, sheltering, or providing any form of logistical support and information to Boko Haram insurgents.
The warning comes in as a result of recent military operations carried out by the Air Component of the Joint Task Force, North East, under Operation Hadin Kai, in the Jilli axis of Gubio Local Government Area on April 11, 2026.
Jilli, a border community situated between Gubio Local Government Area in Borno State and Geidam Local Government Area in Yobe State, has come under increased security scrutiny following the operation.
In a statement issued by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, Governor Zulum described the Jilli market as a notorious location where the insurgents and their logistics suppliers allegedly exploit the citizens.
The Governor stressed that all the markets within these location had been officially shut down by the Borno State Government five years ago,stating that he had been fully briefed on the airstrike conducted by the Air Components of operation Hardin kai on the Jilli market area
He further disclosed that consultations were ongoing with the government of Yobe State and the military high command to address the security situation and prevent further exploitation of the area by criminal elements.
Governor Zulum explained that his administration maintains close coordination with the military and other security agencies before approving the resettlement of communities or the reopening of markets, particularly in regions previously affected by insurgency.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting law-abiding citizens and sustaining joint efforts with security agencies aimed at restoring lasting peace and stability across the state.
The governor also called on residents to remain vigilant and support ongoing military operations by providing credible and timely intelligence to security agencies.
