Hayatu-Deen boycotts ADC results, alleges rigging

The presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), African Democratic Congress, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, has boycotted the official announcement of the party’s presidential primary results, raising allegations of widespread vote rigging across the country.
In a statement shared on his X handle on Tuesday, Hayatu-Deen said he would not attend the scheduled declaration of results, citing serious concerns over the integrity of the exercise. He alleged that irregularities were reported in several parts of the country, some of which he claimed to have personally observed.
“I will not be attending the announcement of the ADC Presidential Election Results today. I am concerned by reports from across the country of widespread vote rigging, some of which I myself observed, and will therefore be taking advice on my next steps,” he stated.
The ADC conducted its direct primary elections across wards nationwide on Monday, May 25, 2026, with over three million registered party members reportedly participating in the exercise.
The presidential race featured three prominent aspirants: former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Rivers State Governor and Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, and Hayatu-Deen, a former chairman of the Nigeria Economic Summit Group.
Preliminary results from several states indicated strong performances for Atiku Abubakar in states such as Sokoto, Yobe, Gombe, Imo, and Abia, while Amaechi reportedly secured victory in Bayelsa State.
The development underscores growing tensions within the ADC as the party seeks to position itself as a major opposition force ahead of the 2027 general elections, with ambitions of presenting a strong alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
