The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under the leadership of Abdulrahman Mohammed, has announced its timetable and fees for the 2027 general elections, setting the cost of its presidential nomination and expression of interest forms at a combined ₦51 million. The party disclosed that its presidential primary election will hold on May 18, while governorship primaries are scheduled for May 27. Details of the timetable were released by the National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, outlining key activities leading up to the primaries. According to the schedule, the party is to submit its membership register to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on April 21, 2026, and notify the commission of its primaries on April 22. The sale of nomination and expression of interest forms is slated to begin on April 27 and will close on May 4, while the deadline for submission of completed forms has been fixed for May 9. Under the approved fee structure, all aspirants are required to pay ₦1 million for the expression of interest form. Nomination fees vary across positions, with State House of Assembly aspirants paying ₦2 million, House of Representatives hopefuls ₦3 million, and Senate aspirants ₦5 million. Governorship aspirants are to pay ₦20 million, while presidential aspirants will pay ₦50 million for nomination, bringing the total cost for the presidency to ₦51 million and ₦21 million for governorship contests. Screening of aspirants for State Houses of Assembly, National Assembly, and governorship positions is scheduled for May 11, while presidential aspirants will be screened on May 12. Further breakdown of the timetable shows that House of Representatives primaries will take place on May 21, Senate primaries on May 23, and State House of Assembly primaries between May 21 and May 24. All appeals arising from the primaries are expected to be concluded by May 30. The party also announced a concession for female aspirants, stating that they will only be required to pay the expression of interest fee for their chosen offices. The announcement comes amid a deepening internal crisis within the PDP, which has split the party into rival factions. One group, led by Tanimu Turaki, is backed by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed. The opposing faction is headed by Abdulrahman Mohammed and is supported by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. Several legal disputes arising from the leadership tussle are currently before the Supreme Court of Nigeria, where justices have indicated that a date for judgment will be communicated to the parties involved.
